Windows 10 End of Support FAQ
When does Windows 10 support end?
Windows 10 support officially ends on 14 October 2025. After this date, Microsoft will no longer provide:
- Security updates or patches
- Feature updates
- Technical support
What happens to my PC after support ends?
Your Windows 10 PC will still work after 14 October 2025, but it will be more vulnerable to security threats.
That’s why it’s strongly recommended to upgrade to Windows 11 or get a new PC that already has Windows 11 installed.
Is it safe to keep using Windows 10 after support ends?
No, it’s not safe in the long run.
Once updates stop, any new security problems that are discovered won’t be fixed. At first, things might seem fine, but over time:
- More security holes will appear
- Hackers will actively target Windows 10 users
- The risk of malware and data breaches will grow
Even if you use antivirus software and browse carefully, there’s still a real chance something could slip through. Unless you plan to keep your Windows 10 PC completely offline, it’s not worth the risk.
Are there other risks besides security?
Yes. Over time, software companies will stop testing their apps on Windows 10. That means:
- Some programmes may stop working properly.
- New updates will no longer install.
- Gamers might find that certain games don’t run correctly anymore - some publishers have already announced they’re dropping Windows 10 support.
What are my options?
- Upgrade to Windows 11 (if your PC meets the requirements).
- Purchase a new Windows 11 PC for the best experience.
How do I upgrade to Windows 11?
You can upgrade in two ways:
- Install Windows 11 on your current PC: Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Windows Update to check eligibility.
- Buy a new PC: New devices with Windows 11 come with faster speeds, longer battery life, and stronger built-in security.
Which edition of Windows 11 is right for me?
- Windows 11 Home: Ideal for personal and household use.
- Windows 11 Pro: Ideal for professionals.
Will Microsoft 365 still work on Windows 10?
No. After 14 October 2025, Microsoft 365 apps (like Word, Excel and Outlook) will no longer be supported on Windows 10.
Upgrade to Windows 11 or move your subscription to a new device to stay supported.
What about older versions of Office?
Office 2016 and Office 2019 also reach end of support on 14 October 2025.
Consider switching to Microsoft 365 or Office 2021, which can be installed on Windows 11 devices.
How is Windows 11 more secure than Windows 10?
Windows 11 has stronger , built-in protections that help keep your information safe, including:
- Built-in antivirus and firewall
- Enhanced internet protections
- Ongoing security updates

What are your options?
Remember if trying other operating systems, to always backup your important files before installing to ensure you don't lose your data
